About the program
For parents
The practical things worth knowing before the season starts: what your child has to weigh in at, how game day runs, and where the schedule lives.
League rules
Weight limits
Every Bluefins player has to meet the OCYFL weight limit for their division. These are set and reviewed by the league for player safety, and weighing in is a league requirement before every single game.
| Division | Grades | Week 1 max | Equipment allowed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mites | Grades 2 / 3 / 4 | 119 lbs | 8 lbs |
| Pee Wees | Grades 5 / 6 | 144 lbs | 8 lbs |
| Midgets | Grades 7 / 8 | 181 lbs | 10 lbs |
The limit rises by one pound each week as the season progresses, so the figures above are the week-one caps. The equipment column is already included in the limit — it is the weight the league assumes for pads and a helmet, not an extra allowance on top.

Game day
How the weigh-in runs
Per the OCYFL bylaws, a player who misses the weigh-in or is over the limit for that week is disqualified from that day's game. It is worth arriving with time to spare.
Read the OCYFL bylaws- Every player on both teams weighs in before every game, usually 30 minutes before the scheduled kickoff.
- Players weigh in wearing their game gear, with helmets removed.
- Only each team’s trained weigh-in official is allowed in the weigh-in area — no players, no coaches.
- Every team uses an OCYFL-certified, calibrated scale, as set out in the league bylaws.
A note on eating and hydration
Players are expected to arrive at practices and games properly fed and hydrated — never hungry or thirsty in order to make a weight. If your child's weight is becoming a concern for game participation, talk to a coach or the board early so it can be handled sensibly and healthily.
Get involved
Game-day volunteers
A home game needs people on the gate, in the snack shack and on the chain gang. The club runs on parents taking a shift or two across the season — it is the single most useful thing you can do beyond getting your player to practice.
Send us a message with the dates you could cover and whatever you are happy doing, and the board will fit you into the roster. No experience needed for any of it.
Shifts we need

Welcome families, take entry

Conduct
On the sideline
Parents shape a season more than they expect to. Support every player on the roster rather than only your own, leave the coaching to the coaches and the officiating to the officials, and let your child's experience of the game be theirs.
Communications
Staying connected to your team
Schedules, cancellations and messages from your coach all run through SportsEngine, which is also where registration lives. Set your account up once and you will get schedule changes as they happen rather than second-hand.
Add your mobile number
Then enable text notifications, so a rained-off practice reaches you in time.
Add a second guardian
A second parent, grandparent or carer can see events, RSVP and message coaches.
RSVP to games
Coaches plan around who is available, so answering matters more than it looks.
