About the program

For coaches

Every Bluefins coach is a volunteer. If you can commit three evenings a week through the autumn, we would like to hear from you.

Coaches wanted for 2026

We need head coaches and assistants across all three divisions. Previous coaching experience is welcome but not required — what matters is showing up consistently and wanting these kids to have a good season.

What the season asks of you

  • Three evenings a week

Practices are typically Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, set by your team.

  • Sundays in season

Ten Sundays, 13 September to the Super Bowl on 15 November.

  • Certification first

The Heads Up tackling course has to be completed before you take a session.

Mandatory

Heads Up tackling certification

Every Bluefins coach is required to complete the Heads Up football tackling course before running a practice. It covers contact technique and the reasoning behind it, and it is the single clearest thing we do to keep tackling as safe as it can be at this age.

The OCYFL bylaws govern weigh-ins, eligibility and game-day procedure. As a coach you will be asked about all three, usually on a Sunday morning with thirty seconds to answer.

Managing your team

Rosters, schedules, RSVPs and team messaging all run through SportsEngine TeamCenter. Your team parent will handle a lot of it, but the schedule and the roster are yours to keep straight.

  • Roster and schedule

Add and edit player details, then publish practices and fixtures so families see them.

  • Messaging and RSVPs

Message the whole team or individual families, and see who is available before game day.
